A Place to Call Home

Several months ago, a few churches in my area established an organization for the homeless. These places of worship donated money to build a large home. Homeless people can stay at this lovely home until they are able to find jobs and secure a place of their own. Members from the participating churches cook meals, maintain the home, drive the residents to job interviews, and complete many other vital activities for the homeless. This religious organization has allowed several homeless families to rest in comfortable beds each night while they put the pieces of their lives back together. On this blog, you will discover how your place of worship can help the homeless in your neighborhood.

Studying The Bible: What's In It For You?

If your schedule is already crammed full of activities, work, and family obligations, you may wonder how you would find time to study the Bible or even why you should consider studying the Bible. You may wonder what's in it for you and why you should consider digging deeper into the meaning of scripture. Studying the Bible is important and valuable for several reasons.

To Know God better

You may feel simply believing in God is all you need. While belief is important, learning about God's character and who he truly is can make a big difference in your life. Studying the scriptures in the Bible will help you understand why God desires his people to have an intimate relationship with him. It will help you grasp how deep God's love is for you and how he knows what is best for your life.

Learn about what to expect in the future

Life is filled with uncertainty, and some things never seem to make sense. Studying the Bible can provide insight into why certain things happen and give you assurance about heaven and what happens after death. Learning the truth in the scriptures can help you worry less and understand the reason why there is pain and suffering in the world.

Prepare to help others

When you learn Bible verses, you can recall them when you need encouragement or inspiration. The more you know about the truth found in scripture, the more you can use your knowledge to reach out and help others who are hurting and need encouragement.

Knowing where to find certain scriptures in the Bible is a valuable benefit of Bible study. Not only is it helpful in your own personal life, but it can be a great way to help those around you. Being able to guide a friend or co-worker to a verse of scripture, related to an issue they are struggling with, is a positive way to provide the help and wisdom they need.

Be independent of relying on someone else's interpretation

You can't always assume everything you hear about faith and God is true. The only way you can fully discern biblical truth is to know it yourself. Studying the Bible equips you to share the truth accurately and in a way that will not mislead others.

Recognize the authority of God's word in your life

Understanding the commandments set forth in the Bible can help keep your life on the right track. Not only can it keep you from making costly mistakes, it can improve the overall quality of your life.

You will learn how to treat people who are hard to like or get along with. It will teach you guidelines for raising a family and how you should view your work. It will teach you the importance of being grateful for the things God has blessed you with.

Getting involved in a Bible study at a church in your local area like New Gethsemane Baptist Church can change your life for the better. The small amount of time invested will be worth the positive changes that are sure to come from knowing God better and learning how to apply his principles to your everyday life.
